The Worcester Heat 12U girls’ softball team, based out of Hit Quarters in Shrewsbury, won its first championship on June 19. It beat the Chelmsford Blue Crush, 8-0.
The Heat scored quickly in the first inning and never looked back.
They scored an additional 3 runs in the 4th inning and closed the game out in a decisive fashion with 4 more runs in the 5th inning to win the game.
The team finished the season at 5-0-1. The victory marks the first ever ASA Championship for the Worcester Heat Softball program.
The team players include: Abigail Gilbert, Isabelle Holden, Courtney Hassan and Heather Holly of Hopkinton; Ally Rota, Molly Reilly, and Erica Ross of Westborough; Kirstin DeVries and Madison Tatten of Northborough; Hannah Sullivan and Gabrielle Montoya of Shrewsbury; Kiley Hennessey of Leicester; Katelyn Koller of Hopedale; and Rylee Hehir of Putnam.
The team was coached by Greg Rota, head coach; Bob DeVries, assistant coach; Jim Sullivan, Don Koller, Chris Hehir and Kevin Tatten, bench coaches.
