CItizen of the Year Nomination Deadline Sept. 2
Fridayis the last chance to nominate someone for the annual honor.
Quiz question: What do Charlie Coles, Patty Osten, Sheila Joslin and Mark Ahronian have in common?
Answer: They are all past Citizens of the Year, as chosen by the Celebrate Holliston Committee.
Who will join their esteemed ranks this year? The answer will be revealed in a couple weeks, and the citizen introduced in public during Celebrate Holliston festivities on Saturday, Sept. 24.
But one thing is clear: The opportunity to nominate someone for the award runs out Friday.
Sept. 2 is the deadline for nominations to be accepted. Forms are available at many locations in town, including Fiske's, the public library and Town Hall. And nominations also can be made online.
The award has been given continuously since 1992 and by tradition, two winners are announced--one male and one female.
"Typically the Citizen of the Year is an unsung hero who works behind the scenes--or in front in some cases--and is nominated by citizens in town," said Celebrate Holliston Citizen of the Year Chairperson Lina Arena-DeRosa.
The final decision is made by the Celebrate Holiston Board--this year, the vote will be taken at a meeting on Sept. 8.
In addition to the honor and recognition, being chosen doesn't come with any responsibilities, in part because winners are typically "so involved in so many civic programs in town, everyone sees them everywhere."
