Dr. Christopher Kennedy Named Center School Principal
New principal will begin as early as next week.
Dr. Christopher Kennedy was appointed as the new principal of Center School late yesterday afternoon.
According to a press release, Kennedy was one of several qualified candidates vying for the position.
"Dr. Kennedy stood out in a deep and highly competitive candidate pool, including a significant number of sitting principals," the press release reads. "Our next Center School Principal has already proven himself an extraordinary school leader. He has deep expertise in early childhood and literacy education."
Kennedy has had a long career in education, beginning as a Montessori School pre-kindergarten/kindergarten teacher. Since that time he has taught English learners in London and served as a reading recovery room teacher in Connecticut. He then went on to serve as both assistant principal and principal in various Rhode Island schools. Most recently, Kennedy spent six years as the Principal of the Nayatt Elementary School located in Barrington, R.I. where he was named Principal of the Year for 2010 and a National Distinguished Principal.
“Children, families, and staff at the Center School are going to flourish under Dr. Kennedy’s leadership,” Superintendent Dr. Jonathan Landman said.
Kennedy is expected to begin as early as next week, with the help of outgoing Principal, Jennifer Parson, who has graciously agreed to help him settle.
"It's going to be a wonderful year at Center School," Dr. Landman said.
