Golden Spoon Puts a New Twist on the Diner for Best Breakfast
This week's Best of Patch Readers' Choice award winner is announced.
When you walk in to the Golden Spoon, you're probably expecting a regular diner atmosphere with witty waitresses and quick service. You definitely get that at the Spoon, but you also get a lot more.
Many of the workers are from Hopkinton so when you sit down for a 20-minute meal, you get your daily dose of town news and conversation as well.
Bill Morgan owns the Golden Spoon, and said, when it comes to the food, they serve plenty of your regular favorites (pancakes, omelets and burgers). They also offer, however, a treat for health-conscious patrons.
"We have what we call a Marathon omelet," Morgan said. "It's egg whites with vegetables a side of fresh fruit instead of bacon or home fries, and whole wheat toast."
It's this modern health twist on an old meal that Morgan thinks helped the diner get voted best breakfast in Hopkinton.
"We're really thankful for all of our customers that voted and supported us," he said. "Fast, friendly service is the key and we provide that here."
Second place Dunkin' Donuts with Hopkinton Gourmet and Red Barn at Angel's tied for third.
Next week we'll be asking Hopkintonites where the best place to get your taxes done in town is.

Had the worst meal of my life at this restuarant. Place was packed, service was ridiculously slow and our food was half cooked. Took some out of town guests there as I heard good things and was totally disappointed!!

Have had many GREAT meals at Golden Spoon, so glad they won the poll. It's too bad that a GAS STATION Dunkin' Donuts came in second.

I've always had a good experience at the Golden Spoon. I love that they take credit cards now too, which they didn't until recently. I think it was the full service Dunkin' Donuts on South Street that came in second, rather than the gas station one.

Thanks Amy, I had forgotten about that one! And thanks HopPatch for this article, I will try this Marathon Omelet! I usually get the oatmeal, for some reason they make it really nice and fluffy at Golden Spoon.

I've never had the oatmeal, the French Toast is really good there.
And yes, Amy, it was the full service DD, I figured I'd pick that one for the poll rather than having both.

My son loves watching the toast cook : )
I took a friend from FLA for breakfast, he was impressed with the local charm and home style cooking.
