Green Volunteers – Thank you!
After a great green-up day, The Hopkinton Sustainable Green Committee wanted to thank everyone who made the event such a success.
Submitted By Caroline McManus, Hopkinton Sustainable Green Committee
The Sustainable Green Committee would like to extend a warm ‘Thank You’ to all of the Hopkinton residents that participated in Green Up day and Shred day last Saturday. Some of the items that were collected and removed from streets and green spaces in Hopkinton include: a couch, toilets, empty alcohol bottles, water bottles, construction wire, various furniture pieces, a broken hula hoop, and dozens of bags of garbage. Such a great effort was made to beautify the town, and we hope that everyone continues to make this effort throughout the year. Please note that a dumpster is available on the last Saturday of every month at the DPW Highway Garage, 83 Wood St, for large items (i.e. white metal, toilets, etc.)
Dozens of residents participated in shred day, which despite a truck malfunction, was a success. A huge ‘Thanks’ goes out to everyone that did some heavy lifting on Saturday and those that helped out with the shredding effort. We greatly appreciate your patience and willingness to drop off shredding materials!
Another ‘Thanks’ goes out to Harvey’s for providing dumpsters and the shred trucks, and more specifically to Alan, Mike, and the maintenance crew for their hard work and dedication to get the shred truck up and working.

Well said Caroline! You were so busy dealing with the Shred Truck that I didn't get a chance to say hello last Saturday at the Common! Thanks for all your efforts!

To have our community come together and green up our town by removing trash on road sides is the start of Hopkinton beginning an even stronger sustainable place to live. With the new Solarize Massachusetts grant that we were awarded, we again can start reducing our need for foreign oil and environmental damage from natural gas fracking in the US. We can get solar panels installed on our roofs and come together with our local businesses to get the best deals on our installation .
It is a win win for all. So as Mothers Day approaches think of Mother Earth and as a local family we can all come together and make Hopkinton again be the start of an amazing race to save our environment.
