Holliston Senior Center to Lose Six Parking Spots

The need for a safe bus turn-around in front of the Senior Center will require a new design for the current parking lot.

Senior citizens that visit the have already lost their bocce court and now the one's that drive will be losing parking spots to allow a safer bus turn around section.

Last night the Holliston Conservation Commission approved a plan that allows construction of a bus turn around loop to begin in the fall.

The original plan was to create a bigger parking lot by building out the parking lot into a giant square, but after consideration Director of the Senior Center Lina Arena-DeRosa and other town officials decided that wouldn't solve the safety problem associated with the buses turning around in the middle of the lot.

Arena-DeRosa said the only safe option was to create a one way loop where busses enter to from the south end of the parking lot (closest to Goulding Street) and turn back through the parking lot at the north end after turning.

Because of the size needed and the impact to the wetlands buffer zone, the six spots currently at the north end of the parking lot will be removed. There are also two handicap parking spots that will need to be relocated.

The plan is for the parking spots to be reintroduced in the future, but for the time being the decision was made to deal with the safety issue as soon as possible.

The loop work will be done by the DPW and will begin in September.
