Keep Your Kids Busy Through the Summer Months
Want to get your kids out of the house? Here are four ways to combat summer boredom.
Year after year parents struggle with ways to get their kids off the couch and out in to the world over their summer vacation.
Although video games are getting more interactive and physical (see Dance Dance Revolution, Xbox Kinect) nothing can make up for the fresh air and natural sunlight kids get while being outside.
Visit the Beach: Holliston has one of the best parks around on Lake Winthrop. Stoddard Park has plenty of fields to play pick-up sports games or lay in the grass and read a book. There is also a playground for younger children and grills to cook some dinner. Oh yeah, and then there's the beach! Go for a swim, wade in or just dip your toes in.
Volunteer at a Charity: Holliston has lots of great charitable organizations to help out with: including but not limited to, The Lions Club, Operation Outreach , The Holliston Pantry Shelf and Planet aid .
Play Some Golf: In Holliston you have two different public golf options. If you're interested in spending a couple hours walking the links visit Pinecrest Golf Club on Prentice Street. Pinecrest also officers lessons and clinics for new and veteran golfers. If you're looking for something a little smaller visit the Water Hazard Mini Golf Course on Concord Street. After shutting down for several years the course recently reopened under new ownership.
Get a Job: It might be too late to get a summer job at a business in town, or your kids may be too young; but that doesn't mean they can't work. Everyone needs someone to mow their lawn or babysit their kids occasionally, a few signs around the neighborhood may help your child learn some responsibility and may even earn them some cash so they can stop begging for their allowance.
