DA: Newlywed Couple Dead After Murder-Suicide
A Hopkinton man killed his wife before taking his own life in their home, authorities said today.
Todd Vogel is being remembered by neighbors as a great guy, but authorities say a crime scene inside his house indicates that he killed his wife before turning the gun on himself.
Hopkinton Police secured the crime scene at 141 Hayward St. this morning after they received a call reporting two unresponsive people inside the house. The call was from an unnamed man who was supposed to be working with Vogel today.
Both Vogel and his wife, Lori Levangie, were found dead, with gunshot wounds.
Hopkinton Police Chief Richard Flannery said there had been no other domestic incidents at the house, although they have responded to several other disturbances at the house.
Vogel, 43, was an avid World War II collector who often participated in parades and demonstrations. Neighbors said he also had parties whenever there was a football game on tv.
"Neighbors were always welcome and his door was always open," said Steve Votolato, a neighbor of the couple.
According to police and Votolato, there was no indication of a problem before the incident.
"I saw him yesterday and said 'Happy Easter' to him," Votolato said. "I remember his face as he said 'You too.' There was no anger in it."
Vogel and Levangie, 40, got married within the past year.
“He always talked about getting married and having a family and kids,” Votolato said.
District Attorney Gerry Leone said the couple didn't have any kids together, but it is unclear whether either of them have children from previous marriages. Levangie still uses her name from a previous marriage.
Leone would not say whether there had been any signs of a struggle but he did confirm that Vogel killed his wife before shooting himself.
"We can't be certain what happened right before the deaths," Leone said. "But the bodies were found within close proximity to each other and to the side exit near the garage."

I remember him from participating in several parades and the Medway Pride Day. He had a nice collection of WWII vehicles with a tank and couple trucks and all of the gear. I talked with him several times about it. He was the nicest guy in the world. This is a shock. I pray for his wife and him and their families.

Definitely a wonderful guy, now celebrating in heaven with his appreciative wife who must have been so thankful to be executed by her dearly beloved tank loving, neighborhood good guy and party host.....send a toast up to him at the next Patriots game....or maybe ...............

Doesn't sound like such a happy-go-lucky "nice guy" to me. Perhaps some journalist somewhere could mention the fact that he murdered his wife. Lori was a beautiful girl who did not deserve an ending such as this.

Abusers are very good at presenting themselves to the world at large as "nice guys." Also, abusers are sometimes angry, but abuse isn't about anger - it's about power and control. I wish the media would offer some basic education on domestic violence when covering tragic stories such as this - it would go a long way toward heading off these tragedies. My heart goes out to the families here.
