You Ask ... Holliston Patch Answers!

How much did Wednesday's storm cost the town?

Welcome to a special edition of "You Ask ... Holliston Patch Answers." Wednesday's storm dumped 18 inches of snow on Holliston (just be glad you don't live in Manchester, CT, which got 27 inches), and caused the closure of Town Hall, the Library and all four schools.

But the Highway Department and its army of plows quickly dug out our fair town, returning us to normal. But what did yesterday's Herculean efforts cost the town? According to Town Administrator Paul LeBeau, preliminary figures from the Highway Department indicate a cost of $54,911, more than a quarter of the $200,000 snow and ice removal appropriation for fiscal year 2011. Combined with the $33,849, the town has already spent $88,760 this fiscal year.

At Monday's meeting, the Board of Selectmen considered increasing the budget for fiscal 2012.
