End of Season UF Awards

The Holliston High School Ultimate Frisbee team held its annual banquet and awards ceremony on June 6th at First Congregational Church's Jordan Hall. The banquet consisted of a backyard-style barbecue prepared by the team parents and the players, coaches, and parents enjoyed a season ending slideshow of UF highlights.

Coaches Chris Levasseur and Jefferson Wood then turned to handing out end-of-year hardware for some very deserving players. The following honors were awarded:

Spirit of the Game Award - Ryan Mullens

Andover Tournament Disc (Tourney MVP) - Alex Trotin

State Tournament Disc (Tourney MVP) - Ben DeSnyder

Offensive Player of the Year - Ben Hart

Defensive Player of the Year - Jensen Holder

Most Improved Player - CJ Duross

Rookie of the Year - Tom Waterman

Unsung Hero Award  - Marcus Rexach

2012 Most Valuable Player - Mike Reid (Mike was also named as Holliston's representative to the league all-star game to be held on June 10th in Somerville).

Certificates for junior varsity players and traditional letters for varsity players were handed out to the team members. During the ceremony, Coach Wood commented about the uniqueness of Ultimate, reminding the team that it is not just the act of playing that goes on during a match. Players are also responsible for coaching teammates on the field, not to mention refereeing. This is what makes Ultimate such a unique sport. He further commented: "The 2012 team was one of the most mentally tough teams we've had here in Holliston, especially during the games against Sharon and Abington. It was in these games that solidified the type of mentally tough team we were."

The final piece of business for the evening was the naming of the captains of the 2013 Holliston UF squad. Junior (soon to be senior) Jensen Holder and sophomore (soon to be junior) Rusty Varrell were named captains, as voted by their  teammates. If you are interested in finding more about UF and the 2013 season, please contact Jensen or Rusty. Keep in mind, the team graduated 10 seniors and UF is a co-ed sport, so there a many opportunities for the young men and women of Holliston High School to play in 2013.
