Jessica Adams of Holliston and her U12 Assabet Valley Girls Hockey team went undefeated in the USA Hockey National Tournament March 28 to April 1 to win the championship.
The top 12 teams from across the United States compete for the title each spring after qualifying in their individual states or regions.
Assabet Valley Girls Hockey teams swept the four nationals championships at the New England Sports Center in Marlboro, winning titles at the, U12, U14, U16 and U19 levels bringing their total number of national titles to 45.
The U12 Assabet Valley team won each of their 20 New England Girls Hockey League games from September through March finishing number one in the nation as listed in My Hockey Rankings, which calculated their standings based on all girls games. Their season record was 45-1-1 with their only loss to the top Canadian team, Etobicoke Dolphins, at the Bauer International Invite held in New York last November, where they were defeated 4-3 in double overtime. They competed in the State Championship , March 9 to 11 , going undefeated to win the Massachusetts title.
The National games were a two division round-robin format. The U12 Assabet team won their four division games defeating The Connecticut Northern Lights 5-0, Milwaukee Jr Admirals 6-1, Pittsburgh Penguins Elite 6-0 and Connecticut Polar Bears 7-2. The semi final game vs the Chicago Young Americans proved to be a real challenge with the score tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation time. Assabet Valley scored the winning goal just 36 seconds into overtime qualifying them for the championship game which they won against Detroit Honeybaked 3-2.
Jessica Adams, who has been playing hockey for five years, racked up 6 points in the National Tournament with 3 goals and 3 assists. Her team finished their season on April 7 winning the predominantly boys NorthStar Youth Hockey League’s PeeWee Upper Division championship game against MidState 1-0 with a double overtime goal by Adams who turned 13 the next day.
