The Holliston Ultimate Frisbee team participated in the Andover Invitational Tournament on April 29. 

Teams descended on Andover from all over New England, including from as far away as Falmouth, Maine and St. Johnsbury, Vermont. Weather conditions were good, albeit a bit colder and windier than preferred.

Holliston opened the tourney with a game against Masconomet, a tournament favorite. After being down 6-3 at halftime, Holliston fought back and tied the game at 9 when the hard cap horn sounded. The hard cap means the next point wins. After a valiant effort, Holliston succumbed 10-9. The next game was against Acton-Boxboro, a long-time rival of Holliston High. Holliston began strong, building 6-2 lead at halftime. AB fought back relentlessly, pushing Holliston to 7-7 when the hard cap was called. Again, Holliston was unable to muster the winning point and suffered a heartbreaking 8-7 loss.

Game 3 of the tournament brought a very experienced St. Johnsbury team. Holliston kept is close early, but by halftime, they were down 6-2. The talented team from Vermont rolled in the second half, dominating the Panthers to a 11-2 victory. It appeared the tough loss in Game 2 had taken its toll.

Prior to Game 4, the team enjoyed a tailgate lunch of pasta and snacks provided by the team parents. With hope that the team only needed refueling to find their first win, Holliston took the field against Abington. In very windy conditions, Abington jumped out to a 6-2 halftime lead and went on to win 11­-3.  Game number 5 paired Holliston with Phillips-Andover. Using their home field advantage, Phillips-Andover jumped to an early lead and never looked back, winning 11-4. However, the game was highlighted for Holliston by the first career point of freshman, Nathaniel Bagge. The entire team celebrated this personal milestone for Nathaniel.

The final game of the tournament for Holliston was against Nipmuc, another long-time rival of Holliston UF. Nipmuc was disadvantaged by having only seven  players and no substitutes. The Panthers took advantage and jumped to an early lead. However, Nipmuc showed extreme tenacity, keeping it close to the end. However, Holliston finally gained its sole victory of the day with a 10-7 win.

Despite having a tough day on the field in the loss column, the Holliston players showed a true spirit of the game and enjoyed themselves throughout. After the loss the Phillips-Andover, Holliston did the non-traditional team cheer - writing an impromptu haiku  - and reciting it as a team to celebrate the victorious  team from Andover.
