The consensus take from the first Presidential debate of the 2012 election was a resounding Romney victory. Governor Romney was polished, sharp, had his facts straight and was aggressive. While President Obama fumbled, resorted to talking points, had the body language of someone who knows he is beaten, and at one point asked Jim Lehrer to go to the next question - ala the infamous Roberto Duran - 'No mas' fight.
I think a factor in this outcome that has not been discussed much is that this is probably the first time in about four years that President Obama has really been challenged. President Obama is, when properly accessorized with a teleprompter - eloquent, quick and quite funny. However he is, when he'll give a press conference - surrounded by a fawning mainstream media. He's not had to defend his positions and now his poor record to anyone with conviction. In this regard the swooning media has left President Obama overconfident and soft - and it showed. All the while Governor Romney survived a brutal primary race, that left him battle tested and prepared him for this matchup.
You'll see better from the President next time, but it will be interesting to see how the President tries to escape his failed record. Appointment television to be sure!

The debate surely showed Americans Mitt Romney's strength, qualifications and leadership abilities that are cruical to leading our country towards an economic and moral recovery. The news media has coddled and covered up Obama's inadequate abilities for so long that the American people have been cheated out of seeing the truth of his failure as our President. The very scarey thing is to see how much control that Obama has not only with the media but with so many other important agencies and departments. Blaming a You Tube video for the terrorist attack on our embassy a few weeks ago, getting the Federal Reserve to lower the interest rate to make Obama look better until the election, and now the Labor Department fiddling with the latest job report numbers to paint a rosier picture. Romney is an experienced and successful leader that knows the only way to be successful as a country is to work to make each and every person a success. Obama, unfortunately, is nothing more than an actor that needs a teleprompter script and the news media to feed to his ego in order to look good. I am not trying to be sarcastic but I truly do not understand why anyone regardless of gender, economic status, race or color would ever want such dishonest political leadership for our country. People who are still supporting Obama are cheating themselves, It truly is time for every American to jump off the sinking Obama ship; staying on board is taking the risk of drowning.
