The New England Mountain Bike Association, which purchased 47 acres of trails in Milford a decade ago, is one of the largest abutters to the proposed Foxwoods Massachusetts casino site.
The New England Mountain Bike Association took a rare step in 2003, becoming one of the only biking organizations in the country to purchase wooded trails for conservation and riding. The 47-acre property — known informally as the Vietnam trail network — is in Milford. A few years ago, the biking association rebuffed a substantially larger offer for the land by a representative of Donald Trump, then looking to assemble land for a casino. Now, the site is adjacent to the proposed 200-plus acre site for the Foxwoods Massachusetts casino. The biking organization, through its board of directors, remains opposed to construction of a casino in Milford, and is urging its members to contact the Massachusetts Gaming Commission to express opposition…

Massachusetts microbreweries have embraced the can in their summer beer offerings.
Cans are all the rage in the microbrew beer world this summer, according to Aaron Aykanian at the Vin Bin. "When all those people saw Sam Adams was doing it, everyone started doing it," said Aykanian who is the Vin Bin's beverage director and manager of the Hopkinton store. Summer is the time for canned beer, he said, whether it is because it makes a six pack lighter for hiking or lets you have a delicious beer by the pool. With companies like Sam Adams paving the way, Massachusetts breweries such as Berkshire Brewing and Wachusett Brewery are now offering their beers in cans.

I'm hoping to drive my old beater into the ground before we need to get another car, but I'm on the lookout. What's your next car going to be?
My wife and I drive a perfectly good 2002 Nissan Sentra with 127,318 miles on it. "Stella" has four wheels and gets us from Point A to Point B. We've reached the stage in the life of the car where we don't repair body damage (as you can tell from the accompanying photo). I'm ashamed for my Dad to see it. But hey, it's paid for. Even though I'd love to get 200K miles out of Stella, she has some mechanical problems, like a seized bolt that has left the transmission fluid unchangeable for about eight years. She could conk out any old day. So we've been on the lookout for our next car. I'm paying attention to car commercials, asking friends about their cars. You know the feeling. We're looking for something that gets good gas mileage, and is …

"I talked earlier today personally with Dan Cathy, CEO of Chick Fil-A about the new reports that Chick Fil-A had capitulated to demands of the supporters of same sex marriage. This is not true. The company continues to focus on the fair treatment of all of its customers and employees, but to end confusion gave me this statement: “There continues to be erroneous implications in the media that …   more ›
