About this column:

Each year, the Hopkinton Parent Teacher Association holds an essay contest in which students select their Hopkinton Heroes.
I nominate Ilene Silver, Elmwood School’s Principal as this year’s Hopkinton hero.  I love Mrs. Silver!  She reminds me of Mr. Keane in Sarah Creech’s book, A Fine, Fine School.  Like Mr. Keane, she is happy about everyone learning. Mrs. Silver wants all of her students to learn lots of things, just like Mr. Keane does.  She wants us to learn reading, writing, science, and math. She offers creative programs to help us learn these things.  She has all of her students participate in a Science Fair, and in Second Grade Math Night to learn Everyday Math.   We also got to meet teachers from Mad …
I would like to nominate Ms. Kinney as a Hopkinton Hero because she is very outgoing.  She puts all her effort into teaching us how to learn.  Ms. Kinney helps every student in my class.  She plays games with us at recess and is lots of fun.   Sometimes she lets us grow plants and other times lets us dance in the classroom.  The best thing about Ms. Kinney is she gives us sticker charts to help us be better people.  I love Center School but I especially love Ms. Kinney! - Maura Souza is a Hopkinton kindergartner

These are just a few of ways Mrs. K entertains young minds, and draws children to the library. I know she has taught me a lesson to let my imagination wander. She knows the books so well, she will know what you’ll enjoy. Mrs. K has helped me many times choose just the …
It was so cool to start riding the bus in second grade at Elmwood School. My brother and sister and I were the last ones to be picked up and the first ones to be dropped off. At Hopkins School, the bus ride is a lot longer than before. Debbie the bus driver makes the ride nicer by giving me books to read and toys to play with. They help me have some fun and follow my bus rules. I need to follow my bus rules to be safe. I get trade-in minutes for following my bus rules in the morning. I use them to get computer time or play with Legos. Debbie gives me Wii video-game cards when I follow my bus …
