About 100 people turned out in a light rain for the first of a series of Memorial Day activities honoring Hopkinton's veterans. A Cub Scout placed a wreath on the memorial at the cemetery's entrance. Taps was played by Hopkinton High students Ryan Webster and Sara Ottomano. Other students read mving historic passages including President Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. A rifle guard of Hopkinton police fired a slute to the veterans. The veterans and onlookers then moved on to the downtown cemeteries and a parade scheduled to start at 11:15 and conclude with speeches and honors at …
As seen from the field the emotions of the day were evident.  From setup to sundown, the Relay for Life participants played, jumped for joy, shared their sorrow and walked in hope through the night.  Hope in Hopkinton is alive.
Massachusetts Construction Career Day was held in Hopkinton at the New England Laborers Training Center for students from the northeast part of state on Thursday, May 5. The day was a chance for high school juniors and seniors to get hands-on understanding of some opportunities in the construction field. Volunteers from different aspects of the construction business offered about 600 students a look at the types of skills the business needs now and in the years ahead. Hopkinton photographer Vicki Francis was on the scene April 18 before the 2011 Boston Marathon started in Hopkinton. Vicki  had a race of her own to catch the commuter rail into Boston where she stationed herself at the finish to record smiles, silliness, exultation, exhaustion and even marriage proposals for the Boston Marathon's 115th running.
