The Hopkinton High School Drama Ensemble is pleased to present an evening of Indian classical music to help raise funds for its upcoming trip to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The concert features George Ruckert, a teacher and performer of Western and Eastern music, with vocalist Shuchita Rao. They will be accompanied by Rajesh Pai. “This is a unique musical event in that it brings two premier Indian classical musicians together in one concert,” said Sarbpreet Singh, the organizer of the event. Singh is a parent of Mehr Kaur, a Hopkinton High School Drama Ensemble student. “The local Indian…

My family loves Southwick’s Zoo in Mendon, MA. The zoo is only a short ride from Hopkinton. We have been several times, and have enjoyed ourselves each and every time. One special visit, early in the morning, will always stand out in my mind. The Zoo opens April 16 this year and it was shortly after that opening date last year that my family journeyed to Southwick first thing in the morning. We were hoping to get a few hours visit before my youngest daughter, Kate, needed her nap. We were standing by the monkey exhibit when the roar of the lions echoed through the entire facility. The …
It began with a red Hopkinton barn. In 1997, Mark and Lisa Verrochi launched a business in a converted horse barn in their Hopkinton back yard. Mark converted the barn loft into his office, which for several years was the hub of the couple’s specialty-coffee roasting business. In the early 2000s, they moved Red Barn Coffee Roasters to its Upton location. But the New England-style red Hopkinton barn remains. “I had been a Naval officer and Lisa a nurse before starting Red Barn," Mark Verrochi said recently. "We’d lived in Hopkinton since 1993 and had two young kids, and were looking for …

With several free play opportunities every week, it is a great place to go and have active time on a rainy spring day. In addition, there is the perfect class waiting for your child. While classes for children 2 and under…
For many in the United States, the appearance of flowers and budding leaves marks the onset of spring. But for New Englanders, maple season denotes that glorious transition from bitter winter to warm sunshine. What better way to treat your family and friends to a sweet mini-adventure at the end of March than to slip away from Hopkinton for a day or perhaps a weekend to explore some of New England’s finest sugarhouses? Prime maple sugaring season in New Hampshire is from mid-February through mid-April. During this brief season, the sugarhouses produce nearly 90,000 gallons of maple syrup …
