The planning board race was decided by less than 25 votes.
It was a quiet day for election officials at Holliston High School yesterday. Only 656 residents turned out to vote in the annual town election. While many of the candidates were uncontested, there were contested races for Town Clerk and Planning Board. Liz Greendale, who won a five-way race in 2011 to replace retiring Town Clerk Jackie Dellicker, was re-elected 489 to 166 over challenger Pamela Zicko. "I really appreciate everyone in Holliston and the confidence they’ve instilled in me and I’m going to work hard for the next few years," Greendale said. In a much closer Planning Board race William Thorn beat out Fred Carnes 287 to 265.

Scordino thanked her supporters after winning in yesterday's Hopkinton town election.
After numerous letters of support for Ellen Scordino and Amy Ritterbusch, the voters elected Scordino almost 2-1. With a final tally of 874 to 472 Scordino was thankful to her supports and said she looks forward to working with Superintendent Cathy Macleod when she begins in July. "I want to make sure she knows the School Committee, me included, is invested in her succeeding this year," Scordino said. A top priorty for Scordino also belongs to reworking the master plan for the schools, which was written in 2009. Scordino will be sworn in by Town Clerk Ann Click this week so she can participate in Thursday's School Committee meeting.

The annual town election is today at the Hopkinton Middle School.
Turnout is "steady" at today's annual town election in Hopkinton according to Town Clerk Ann Click. With 337 voters having cast ballots as of 11 a.m. the pace is slightly ahead of last year's town election and the state primary last month. There is one contested race on this year's ballot. Ellen Scordino and Amy Ritterbusch are competing for one school committee seat. Both candidates have had multiple endorsements submitted to Patch. Those endorsements can be found in the local voices section of the site.

Initial election results show 18 people were elected Tuesday to Milford Town Meeting through write-in campaigns. Most are casino opponents.
Milford casino opponents have elected as many as 12 people as Town Meeting members, part of an effort to stop the casino development should it move ahead to a member vote. The Town Meeting would vote on a rezoning, which would be required for the property. A rezoning vote requires a two-thirds majority, according to town officials. Casino-Free Milford asked its volunteers to run for Town Meeting this year as write-in candidates with the purpose of stopping the casino development. "This was just one part of our strategy," said Geri Eddins, a spokeswoman for the organization. The former Navy SEAL and the longtime Congressman will face off June 25 to fill John Kerry's former U.S. Senate seat.
A political newcomer will face a long-time Massachusetts politician in the race to be the Bay State's next U.S. senator. The Associated Press has declared Republican businessman and former U.S. Navy SEAL Gabriel Gomez of Cohasset and Democratic U.S. Congressman Edward Markey of Malden the winners of their U.S. Senate special primary elections, according to tweets from Fox 25. The call for Gomez came approximately one hour after the polls closed in the statewide primary while a call for Markey came moments later. Voter's headed to the polls late in the day to bring in more than 17 and 13 percent in Holliston and Hopkinton respectively.
Holliston and Hopkinton voters agree, they want Edward Markey, D-Malden, and Gabriel Gomez, R-Cohasset, to represent their respective parties in the upcoming senate election. Voter turnout was slow early in both towns, with Holliston passing 5 percent at noon and Hopkinton passing 4 percent at 1 p.m. but later in the day more residents cast their ballot in the special senate primary to fill Secretary of State John Kerry's vacated seat. Holliston, 1757 total ballots. Hopkinton, 1304 total ballots.
