A Thousand Cranes
The Prana Center, 21 Charles St, Holliston, MA | Get Directions »
$15.00
This beautiful play is based on the haunting true story of Sadako Sasaki, memorialized in the children's book A Thousand Cranes.
Sadako is lively and athletic, the star of her school's running team, a regular kid! But then she starts getting dizzy. Doctors diagnose leukemia, the "atom bomg disease." The atom bomb fell on her home town 10 years earlier during World War 2.
With the help of her friend Kenji, Sadako sets to work folding paper cranes. Japanese legend says that if a sick perso fold 1,000 paper cranes, the gods will grant her wish and make her healthy again.
Now memorized in the Hiroshima Peace Garden, Sadako's bravery has inspired many to work for the end of nuclear weapons and for world peace.
Proceeds from this play will be donated to the Hiroshima Peace Museum's education programs for peace.
