<h4>The new name reflects the continuing efforts to welcome everyone to experience the benefits of Scouting.</h4>
Milford, Mass. (May 8, 2024)
 – The Boy Scouts of America announced that it will change its name to Scouting America. This change reflects the organization’s ongoing commitment to welcoming every youth in America to experience the benefits of Scouting. The name change will go into effect on February 8, 2025, the organization’s 115th birthday.
This announcement also comes as the organization celebrates the fifth anniversary of welcoming girls into Cub Scouting and Scouts BSA programs. Boy Scouts of America currently serves 176,234 girls and young women across all programs, including over 6,000 who have earned Eagle Scout status.
“We’re excited to be a part of Scouting America’s national launch!” said local Boy Scout Chapter CEO, Juan Osorio. “Here in the Metro West and South Shore areas, which is the Mayflower Council, we’ve always believed that Scouting is for all young people who are ready for adventure, leadership, and service. This new name reflects that commitment on a national scale, and we’re thrilled to welcome even more youth, and families, into our programs. We’re especially proud of the many young women who have thrived in Scouting these past five years, with thousands achieving the prestigious Eagle Scout rank. Scouting America opens a new chapter, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for all Scouts!”
Scouting America builds on the organization’s 114 years of helping America’s youth. Its ongoing goal is to provide young people with a safe environment where they can learn meaningful life skills and have fun, educational experiences, fostering their growth and future outcomes as leaders, and be prepared for life. At the same time, values instilled by the Scout Oath and Law help prepare young people for lives of purpose and impact.
Mayflower Council, established in 2017, is the result of the consolidation of Scouting programming that has served Greater Metro West and the South Shore areas of Massachusetts for over a century. Comprised of territory that was once part of the Algonquin, Norumbega, Knox Trail, Squanto, and Old Colony Councils, the Mayflower Council is rich with the traditions and history of generations of Scouts and Scouting families.
More than 130 million Americans have been through Scouting programs since its founding in 1910, and currently, more than 1 million youth, including both men and women, are served by 477,000 dedicated adult volunteers in local councils throughout the country. To date, more than 2.75 million youth have earned Scouting’s highest rank of Eagle Scout.
In addition to supporting the nation’s youth, Scouting America will continue to be an important asset to strengthen our communities, having provided more than 7 million hours of volunteer services for community improvement and other projects across the country.

The Residence at Valley Farm

Attend a Dementia Friends Information Session on Tuesday May 9 at The Residence at Valley Farm to help break the stigma associated with the disease. Residents of all towns are welcome! 
This session is suitable for adults of all ages and children in middle school and older. You’ll learn the five key messages, the different types of dementia and their impact, what it’s like to live with dementia, and the small things you can do to make a difference. You'll also learn about the extensive resources and support that are available for care partners and to help people with dementia have a more fulfilling life.
Turn your new understanding of dementia into practical action that can help someone with dementia living in our community. Actions can be as big or as small as you choose – because every action counts! Everybody can help make their community a safer, supportive, and more inclusive place for people living with dementia and their care partners.

Family Friendly Mental Health Awareness Event
Framingham, MA - On Saturday, May 18 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm, Call2Talk the statewide mental health and suicide prevention program, and the MetroWest Regional Coalition for Suicide Prevention, invite you to join their Hope Blooms Mental Health Awareness Day/Resource Fair. The event will be held outside behind the Mass211 offices at the United Way of Tri-County, located at 46 Park Street in downtown Framingham. 

The event is scheduled in May during Mental Health Awareness Month to acknowledge and bring attention to the agencies and programs that allow for the possibility of hope and healing. Combined with lighthearted family-friendly activities, Hope Blooms will provide support and acknowledgment that it is sometimes okay to not be ok. 

Several community partner agencies helped plan the event and will be in attendance to share resources. Agencies include the MetroWest Regional Coalition for Suicide Prevention, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Framingham Force, SPARK Kindness, Ashland DAET, the MetroWest Chamber of Commerce, OUT MetroWest, Natick 180, LOSSTeam MetroWest, Parent Professional Advocacy League, Call2Talk, and Mass2-1-1. 

Families are encouraged to join in and learn about local resources. Kid friendly activities will be available through the generosity of the following organizations.

•	Rock painting with Spark Kindness
•	Pets and People therapy dogs - Pets and People Foundation
•	Cool Cow ice cream truck
•	Framingham Public Libraries Bookmobile
•	Face Painting at the MetroWest Chamber of Commerce table
•	Call2Talk will provide gift bags to the first one hundred to check-in (one per family)
•	Snacks, water, and additional treats donated by Wegmans will be available.

All attendees who check-in will be entered into a raffle to win a lovely garden gift basket and the first one hundred people to check-in will receive a gift bag with flower seeds to plant at home.

Although mental health is important to address year-round, May is Mental Health Awareness Month and provides a dedicated time for people, organizations, and communities to join their voices, provide resources, and share that there is hope, help, and healing. 

Call2Talk would also like to bring attention to the United Way of Tri-County’s food security program in Framingham which provides groceries and hot meals to those in need in the MetroWest area, and their new community vegetable garden. 

Call2Talk planted blooms in the garden last fall to pay respect to those lost to suicide. The garden design was created, and time was donated by Call2Talk volunteer Elizabeth Morrison Garden Design.

Holliston senior center

Regional entertainer Dan Kirouac will bring a one-hour concert to the Holliston Senior Center for their annual “Summer Sizzler” lunch on Wednesday, June 12th at 12:00 PM. This will feature radio-friendly pop, light rock, and easy-listening songs of the 1960s and 1970s.
The senior center is located at 150 Goulding St. The performance is open to members of the Holliston senior community and others as space and interest allow. Inquiries at (978) 724-3522.
The program is supported by a grant from the Holliston Cultural Council, a local agency, which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
