Don't Forget to Spring Forward

Plus, some other tips you need to know about Daylight Savings Time 2014.

Either before you go to bed tonight or early in the morning, do not forget that your clocks need to “spring ahead” tomorrow (March 9). It becomes 3 a.m. at 2 a.m., marking the start of Daylight Savings Time 2014.

Here are some helpful tips too:

First, Dr. Douglas Kirsch of the Sleep Disorders Service in the Division of Sleep and Circadian Disorders Department at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, recommends giving yourself a “jump start” to adjusting to the time change by exposing yourself to light as soon as you wake up. It will reset your body’s clock. He also recommends not consuming caffeine in the afternoon and to relax on the day before the change.

The National Fire Protection Association also recommends testing your smoke alarms and detectors, noting that two-thirds of home fire deaths occur in homes that either don’t have smoke detectors or the alarms are not working. The org also advises checking the batteries once a month and replacing the detectors every 10 years.

Daylight Savings Time 2014 ends in November.
