Intersection Work to Begin at West Main and School Street in Hopkinton

Here are some things to know to help inform your day.

1. Construction of intersection improvements at West Main and School streets in Hopkinton is expected to begin on Monday. This is one of the most heavily travelled intersections in town, and police have erected an electronic light board facing Upton-bound traffic, alerting them to the project.

2. Lonza received $29,000 a year in local property tax incentives to locate jobs in Hopkinton. The company, based in Switzerland, recently announced it was cutting two-thirds of the Hopkinton jobs, or 173 positions. Town Selectmen on Tuesday directed the town manager to work with the town counsel to try to recoup any taxes that may be due as a result of the company's decision.

3. Medfield could be the location of the area's first marijuana cultivation facility. An indoor growing facility is being considered at a location at 99 West St., according to a report on Medfield Patch.

4. Liberty Tax Service, which has offices in Milford and Franklin in this area, is planning to hire tax preparers by the next tax season. It is offering a free, 10-week course for people interested in learning how to apply the tax code to returns. The hours are flexible. A fee is charged for books.
