Restaurant Hosts Beer Series Featuring Upton Tea

In addition to breakfast beers, John Harvard's is offering a Bavarian menu.

For the second straight year, one Framingham restaurant is offering up a unique breakfast menu for a limited time.

John Harvard's Brewery and Ale House is hosting its second annual Breakfast Beer Series with six selections created by head brewer RJ Schultz. In addition, the beers can be paired with items off of a Bavarian-themed menu built by chef Aldrin Ascencio.

As described by this year's John Harvard's, this year's breakfast beers include:

  • 50 Shades of Early Grey IPA: An American IPA with a breakfast twist. We brewed a hoppy, sessionable IPA and then added Extra Bergamot Earl Grey Tea from Upton Tea Imports out of Holliston, MA. The tea accents the citrusy hops to give this beer a nice orangey flavor.
  • Bamberger Swine Bier: A traditional German Rauchbier that has been "dry-hogged" with 10 pounds of extra crispy bacon. The smokey character of the beechwood smoked malt is enhanced by the bacon.
  • Hefewizen: An unfiltered Bavarian style wheat ale that has spicy banana falvors and aromas that comes from the German Weizen yeast.
  • Breakfast with the Old Man: The original Old Man Winter is an English-style Old Ale, sweet and full bodied yet very well balanced. We have added a touch of rye and oatmeal to give it a spicy character with a creamy mouthfeel, respectively. We also added coffee from the Atomic Cafe in Beverly, MA, to make this a complex beer to enjoy over the cold winter days.
  • Chocolate Milk Stout: An American stout that was brewed with lactose and both Ecuadorian and Ghanian cocoa nibs. The rich chocolate and coffee flavors are balanced out by the creamy sweetness provided by the lactose.
  • Pass the OJ IPA: An American IPA that was aged on blood orange and grapefruit. The citrus and piney flavors provided by the American hops are complimented by the additions of both citrus fruits. The bitterness is balanced by the sweetness that the oranges and grapefruits add.
On the Bavarian menu available through February 18 are three special dishes - Thuringia pickles and pretzels, salmon strudel and Schweinekoteletts.

From February 19 through February 28, there are three new Bavarian dishes - Bratwurst schnitzel, sauerbraten and house made weisswurst bites.
