New CrossFit Gym Gives Supportive Workout Atmosphere

A Holliston couple has opened the gym and running shop on Route 16 in Milford.

CrossFit, the workout trend that is sweeping the nation, is coming to Milford thanks to Lisa and Thomas Mikkelsen of Holliston.

The couple opened their workout gym, CrossFit Never Doubt, and running store, last month and they say their growth has already exceeded expectations.

"We've only been open for a few weeks and we already have more than 20 members," Thomas Mikkelsen said. "That's three times the amount we expected to have by now."

The Mikkelsen's are runners at heart, they've both ran in the Boston Marathon, but they took to CrossFit several years ago as a way to supplement their running workouts with more full body exercise.

"I used to do several short runs and one long run every week," Thomas said. "But when I started cutting out the junk miles and replacing them with a CrossFit workout I noticed that I was actually improving more."

One of the aspects that the Mikklesen's said draws people to CrossFit is the competitive and nurturing atmosphere.

"The results of each workout are recorded so you can compare yourself to the other members, and to your previous progress," Lisa said. "But when someone gets a personal best everyone congratulates them, even if it's not the top score."

The married couple also has a running specialty store at the same location on East Main Street in Milford.

"We noticed that there aren't any specialty running stores in the area," Thomas said. "As runners ourselves we wanted to make it easier for runners to get the right equipment."
