Some Facts About Sports Nutrition

It's less than one week until the Boston Marathon, and more than likely, if you're running, you've been training for months (or all year) and eating right.  I find it fascinating how much science is involved in training and fueling your body properly to run for hours on end.  Science and lots of determination.

Even though sometimes it seems like everyone in Hopkinton and neighboring towns runs Boston, I know there are plenty of us who could never dream of running a marathon. For the rest of us, we run or walk a few miles, maybe play some tennis or soccer, or work out at the gym.  But do you give much thought to sports nutrition?

Even if you're just an average fitness enthusiast, what you eat before and after your workout can make a huge difference in the quality of your exercise and how you feel the next day. It can also help you to lose more weight or gain more muscle.

For the facts about what, how much and when to eat, check out this blog post on Workout Food, and while you're there don't miss my recipe for Chocolate Banana Peanut Butter Energy Bites!

Good luck to all the runners on Monday!
