Winning as a Coach for 5th Grade Boys Hoop

"During playoffs, a player decided to make a team speech... if I had to guess which player would have taken this role, he would not have been in the top three options."

Basketball gave me so much growing up, it was just a matter of time before the sport called me back in.  I was lucky to find Coach Karen Jewett and the 5th Grade Boys Travel Team.

On Friday night the boys continued their wins through the playoffs.  Before a cheering section of the boy's friends and family, they won their second game of the playoffs and move on to the next game on Saturday afternoon in Foxboro.

As an assistant, I get to have all the benefits of hanging out with a terrific group of boys, while not having the pressure of work conflicting with a practice or game.

These boys are terrific.  With a group of 12 personalities, the biggest takeaway from this continuing season is that I am excited and hopeful that my kids have the chance to be like them in the coming years (mine are 7 and 3 years old and one is 9 months).

Who cares if we win!  (sorry boys)  I am already happy how these boys have grown.  Our guard no longer drops his head in discouragement when our faster guard gets a hand on his pass, he just tweaks his play each time to get it by him.

Our big guy who started as a slow, non-catching, soft player has hustled and worked on his game at home, going up strong and hitting some foul shots!

The team gets fired up when our two bench players get in and make a great move.

During playoffs, a player decided to make a team speech to fire up the boys before the game.  The surprise: if I had to guess which player would have taken this role, he would not have been in the top three options.  He felt comfortable enough to speak up and take a strong role on the team.

Thanks boys, for a great experience to get to know you and your families!

This is a great experience, thank you Holliston Basketball... I caught the bug.  I highly recommend that everyone get involved with youth sports.
