Marty Lamb Hopes to Block Illegal Immigrants From Driving

Mary Lamb announced last week that he will file legislation blocking illegal immigrants from getting drivers licenses.

Submitted by Marty Lamb for State Representative

Marty Lamb, Republican candidate for State Representative in the Eighth Middlesex District, announced that he will file legislation to prohibit the Registry of Motor Vehicles from allowing illegal immigrants to obtain driver's licenses.

"Clearly we need much more oversight at the Registry on who can obtain a driver's license. As a father and husband, I'm greatly concerned that the Registry not only originally allowed Onyango Obama to get a license, but they then gave it back to him after pleading guilty to drunk driving. It shows poor judgment and lack of concern for public safety," said Lamb.

Onyango Obama was arrested several months ago for drunk driving. At the time of his arrest, it was publicly revealed that he was an illegal immigrant ordered out of the country more than a decade ago. Two weeks ago he pleaded guilty to drunk driving at the Framingham District Court. After pleading out at the Registry, Obama was given a 'Cinderella's license' to allow him to drive to work.

"I want to know why the incumbent has not issued a statement or called upon the Registry to explain their decision to give him back his license. Where is the concern for public safety? How many times have we seen stories of repeat drunk drivers killing people?" said Lamb. "Furthermore, we need to find out how an illegal immigrant gets a license in the first place. We need a proactive Representative."

Lamb believes that it is time to pass legislation requiring proof of U.S. citizenship in order to get a Massachusetts driver's license.

"Let's not forget that it was just 19 months ago that Matthew Denice was tragically killed by an illegal immigrant who was a drunk driver. We need to avoid future tragedies," added Lamb.
