This Week in Social Media: Aug. 6-12

Welcome to our weekly column, which highlights trends, thoughts, and news from Facebook and Twitter.

Here at Holliston Patch, we take social media pretty seriously.

The platform is one way we look to interact with you, answer your questions and get to see what's on your mind. Social Media Saturdays is a weekly feature where we highlight your questions and thoughts you've shared on FacebookTwitter and other media throughout the past week.

We'll also point you to some new and interesting pages you may not have known about before.

Highlights of the Week

Currently, we've got 279 fans liking us on Facebook (the same as last week) and 455 followers on Twitter (up eight), with numbers growing every day. Here are some highlights of what took place this week:

  • On Wednesday in his About Town column, Mudville Base Ball Club member announced . According to Shannahan, "the new team, composed primarily of members of the Mudville Club, is modeled after the original Boston Red Stockings, Boston’s first professional team and a member of the National Association from 1871 to 1875. It is intended that the new team act as a living museum, with players adopting the names and characteristics of the actual players on the original team."

    This story received 191 "impressions" and a Facebook "like" from Doreen Martel.
  • Patch has created the "Massachusetts Remembers 9/11" Facebook page," a place where "Massachusetts residents can come together to remember those who died, thank our emergency responders and support those who survived."

    Visitors are encouraged to share memories of where they were that fateful morning and how their lives have changed since. Readers can also post photos of loved ones who died or submit notices of remembrance ceremonies and other 9/11 memorials.

    The page has 97 "likes" and has 277 "impressions" since Aug. 5.

Social Media Page of the Week

FEARnet has given , a "horror-sitcom" named for the town in which the show is set. The show is the brainchild of accomplished film directors Joe Lynch (Wrong Turn 2, The Knights of Badassdom) and Adam Green.

Hollistonians might already be familiar with the 36-year-old Green, who is a native son. Horror fans know Green as the director of Hatchet, Hatchet II and Frozen, among other films. His latest venture brings him back, in a way, to his hometown.

According to FEARnet's announcement, the show is an "outrageous and offbeat multi-camera, half-hour buddy comedy series" in which Green and Lynch will play "lesser versions of themselves." The sitcom will follow the lives of "Adam" and "Joe," two recent college graduates who aspire to become horror movie directors. They work at a cable access television station in Boston, where they host a a late-night horror film show called "The Movie Crypt."

Holliston will follow their struggles with women, money and their careers.

Created on August 7, the show already has a Facebook page, which has 113 "likes."

Unfortunately for Holliston residents hoping the town will go Hollywood, the show will not be shot on location. It will be shot in the real Tinseltown, which will serve as the fake Holliston.
