The town election in Hopkinton is scheduled for Monday, May 19, and polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

There is only one competitive election – the race for School Committee. Three candidates – Kelly Knight, Lori Nickerson, and Frank Sivo – are running for two seats.

All the other races are non-competitive.

Voters will also make a decision on two Proposition 2 1/2 ballot questions.

Question 1 is an “underride,” requesting voters to approve of a reduction in the town’s levy limit of $1.25 million.

Question 2 is a debt exclusion proposal. Voters are being asked to increase taxes by $6.25 million to renovate and expand the library. The project, slated to cost nearly $12 million, will also receive $4.5 million in grant funding. It was recently approved by Town Meeting.
