Paul M. Phipps, 91, died Sunday, December 23. A lifelong Hopkinton resident, he was a 1939 graduate of Hopkinton High School and attended Holy Cross and the Babson Institute. He was a captain in the Marines, and a survivor of Iwo Jima. He was the founder and owner of Paul Phipps Insurance Company.
He was very active in town organizations, including being an original organizer of Hopkinton Little League and founder of Hopkinton Chamber of Commerce. He served as chairman for multiple charitable committees, including the American Cancer Society and March of Dimes, and was a member of many, many more.
He was inducted into the Hopkinton High School Athletic Hall of Fame, and was voted Hopkinton Man of the Year on 1985 for his extensive community work.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ruth, two sons Robert of Sutton and Richard of Levittown, NY. He also leaves six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Ronald, who died in 1974.
His funeral will take place on Saturday, December 29, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, followed by a burial with military honors at Evergreen Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Friday, December 28 from 3 - 7 p.m. at Callanan Cronin Funeral Home.
