Wrong Way Operator Arrested for OUI on Route 495
Driver thought he was on a side street off the highway and didn't understand he was on the highway.
The following information was obtained from a Massachusetts State Police press release.
Early Monday morning, the Massachusetts State Police Barracks in Millbury received numerous 911 calls for a wrong-way operator on Route 495 southbound in Hopkinton. As several cruisers headed to the area, the vehicle was found stopped in the median strip, facing the wrong direction, with its lights out and the engine running.

Troopers found the driver, STUART KIRBY, to have a heavy odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. KIRBY, 53, of Revere believed he was on a side-street off the highway and didn‘t understand he was on the highway.
KIRBY needed assistance from troopers in getting out of his car, was unsteady on his feet and needed help in keeping his balance. KIRBY was medically evaluated by Hopkinton EMS due to some statements relative to his health. After being evaluated KIRBY was taken into custody and transported to the Millbury State Police Barracks. KIRBY was charged with OUI 2nd offense, wrong way operation and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. KIRBY was bailed out on personal recognizance.

KIRBY will appear today in Framingham District Court.
