The Department of Public Works will consolidate the functions of the highway department and the water department, assuming responsibility for the operations of town streets and the management, care and maintenance of town property. Responsibilities may also include the collection and disposal of garbage, the maintenance and repair of street lights and determining the annual water budget and rates.

The bill now goes to the Governor for his signature.

Submitted by the Office of state Sen. Karen Spilka.
