UPDATED: Selectmen Update Outage Situation

Press release from Selectmen, Monday afternoon:

As of 1:30 p.m. Monday, town and state officials are continuing to work with NStar on restoring power as quickly as possible.

NStar is approaching the problem by focusing on repairs that restore power to largest number of affected residents first. Some of those repairs have already returned power to parts of town.

The School Department is assessing bus routes and reviewing any necessary route adjustments and are waiting to see how much of the damaged is repaired throughout the day in anticipation of the first day of school tomorrow.

We continue to monitor the situation and will provide more information as it becomes available.

We have been out assessing the after effects of Irene and are aware of the fact that many parts of town are without power.

The Highway, and departments have done a tremendous job clearing debris and addressing any public safety issues. Town officials have made multiple requests of NStar for a status of when we can expect the power to be restored and line crews are currently working on the problems.

As of 10:30 Sunday evening, there remain about 12 sizable downed trees that have impacted power lines and require NStar to turn off the power before the can clear the trees.

This process will continue throughout the evening and well into  
tomorrow. We are working to get power restored as quickly as possible. Thank you in advance for your patience.
