Former State Senator Warren Tolman is the latest to put his hat in the race for attorney general. Tolman made his announcement Thursday.

Tolman made his announcement Thursday, making it three democrats so far in the race for one of the state’s top offices which includes Maura Healey, a former top aide to Attorney General Martha Coakley, as well as State Rep. Harold Naughton.

The three will be on a September 2014 primary ballot for the seat being left vacant by AG Martha Coakley’s who launched her campaign for governor of Massachusetts in September.

In an interview with MassLive.com, Tolman said he was partly inspired to run by his experience living Watertown during the search for the Boston Marathon bombing suspect. He said it made him think about ways he could give back and that the AG’s office is one the “best places from which I can have a positive impact on people’s lives.”

Tolman, who previously ran an unsuccessful bid for governor in 2002, was elected to the House of Representatives in 1990 and the Massachusetts Senate in 1994. He’s currently an attorney with the firm of Holland & Knight and has appeared weekly talking politics on the Fox 25 Morning News.
