Myth Busting: The Facts on Electricity Use and Your HVAC System

According to the experts at Energy Star, the operation of your HVAC system accounts for about 50 percent of energy consumption per average household. Given this percentage, believing in myths about electricity use and your HVAC System can be quite costly.

One myth that may be costing Holliston-Hopkinton homeowners is thinking that you can cool or heat your home faster by higher or lower than your desired comfort point. If your home is cool, setting your thermostat to 68 degrees will warm up your home in the same length of time it would take if you set it to 80 degrees

Another energy myth that has hurt some homeowners is the belief that it saves energy to leave your HVAC system running all day. It's important to make sure that your HVAC system is off when the desired comfort point is reach or if no one is home.
