Shayne Desroches of Hopkinton is being remembered as a kind and popular student.
"Our school community is deeply saddened by this loss and we extend our sincere sympathy to the family of our student," read a message that went out to all parents from Hopkinton Superintendent Dr. Cathy MacLeod.
The eighth grader was struck and killed while riding on Route 85 at around 5 p.m. on Wednesday. The 16-year-old female driver stopped at the scene and was taken to the hospital as a precaution, said Stephanie Guyotte, a spokeswoman for District Attorney Marian T. Ryan who confirmed the identity of the boy killed in the accident.
