Dear Parents and Guardians:

As many of you have already heard, Ilene Silver has announced that she intends to retire at the end of this school year, after 14 years of leadership at the . We have begun the process of looking for a successor to Mrs. Silver. Ms. Kim Pulnik, , will be chairing a Screening Committee. The Screening Committee will include the Principals of the and Elementary Schools; Meredith Ekwall, Director of Elementary Curriculum; three members of the Elmwood faculty; Jessica McPhail, Administrative Assistant in the Elmwood Main Office; and two parent representatives selected from volunteers identified by the HPTA, HEF, the Special Education Advisory Council (SPEAC), and the Elmwood Parent Council.

The position has already been advertised, and we plan to select a pool of Semi-Finalist candidates for the Screening Committee to interview by March 9. The Screening Committee will conduct interviews and, in turn, recommend Finalists to the Superintendent by March 15. If all goes as planned, the identities of Finalists who agree to move forward in the process will be shared with the community by the end of that week.

The process after that will include further interviews at the Central Office, and on the evening of March 26, School Committee interviews followed by a public forum at the Elmwood School, at which all parents and staff will be invited to meet the candidates and provide their input into the decision-making process. Please put the evening of March 26 in your calendars! There is a possibility that we might conduct a site visit at one or more Finalists’ current work site, and by April 12, I will announce our choice for the new Principal of the Elmwood School.

I understand that there are few roles more vital in the life of a community than a school Principal.  We will take the utmost care to find the right educational leader for the job.

Sincerely,

Dr. Jonathan Landman, Ed.D.
