Virtual School System Would Serve Holliston and Hopkinton

The Education Cooperative based in Dedham was the only group to file an application to become a virtual school in Massachusetts.

The Education Cooperative in Dedham hopes to open the state's second virtual school next fall, according to a recent story in The Recorder newspaper based out of Greenfield, Mass., which hosts the state's first virtual school.

TEC Connections Academy (TECCA) Commonwealth Virtual School was the only school to file an application to do so by the Nov. 11, 2013 deadline. The K-12 school would use the Internet to serve students across the state who may otherwise struggle in brick-and-mortar schools.

According to TEC's website, the school was "developed to provide 24/7 online learning opportunities for students and teachers of the towns of Canton, Dedham, Dover, Dover-Sherborn, Framingham, Holliston, Hopkinton, Medfield, Millis, Natick, Needham, Norwood, Sherborn, Walpole, Wayland, and Westwood. It is an innovative initiative that  promotes professional collaboration between teachers from across our high-achieving districts and enables each school district to offer an expanded program of studies for their students that includes exemplary, engaging 21st century learning experiences designed and facilitated by highly qualified staff from TEC's member districts."
