Four Hopkinton Eagle Scouts Recognized

Erik Pohl, Andrew Dawson, Daniel Liberta and Phillip Gebler, all of Hopkinton, were among the Eagle Scouts recognized at a dinner in Marlborough last week.

The Knox Trail Council of the Boy Scouts of America this month honored its Class of 2011-2012 Eagle Scouts at a banquet held at the Courtyard by Marriott in Marlborough.

Organized by the Council’s National Eagle Scout Association (NESA) Committee, over 100 Scouts, parents, Scout leaders, and mentors attended to celebrate the Scouts’ achieving the highest rank in Boy Scouting.

Hopkinton scouts reaching this status were Erik Pohl, Andrew Dawson, Daniel Liberta and Phillip Gebler.

Between 2011 and the first quarter of 2012, 156 Knox Trail Council Scouts attained the rank of Eagle Scout, representing 8 percent of all current Scouts. Across the United States only about 5 percent of Scouts achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.

Serving as Honorary Guest and Keynote Speaker for the evening was Christopher Petrini, Town Counsel to the Towns of Framingham, Medway, Sherborn and West Brookfield, and special counsel to other cities and towns throughout the Commonwealth. Petrini is an Eagle Scout from the former Troop 3 in Framingham, and also spent much of his youth Scouting as a member of Troop 2 in Milford.

Editor's Note: As an Eagle Scout myself I want to convey special congratulations to the four boys noted here. Earning Eagle is a tough process that requires countless skills including but not limited to leadership, time management and drive to push through one of the toughest tasks of a young man's life.

If you or your son are working on an Eagle Project I would feel honored to volunteer my time to assist you.
