Cournoyer Hired as Hopkinton High Principal

He will make his move from Holliston to Hopkinton on July 1.

Hopkinton Interim Superintendent, Dr. Steven Hiersche, is pleased to announce that he has appointed Michael Cournoyer as Hopkinton High School’s next principal. Cournoyer holds a Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership from Worcester State College, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Education from the University of Lowell.  He is currently the Principal for Holliston High School. He previously served as Assistant Principal of Hopkinton High School, and began his career in education as a high school health teacher at Southbridge High School. Mr. Cournoyer will assume his new role on July 1, 2013.

Harutunian Picked to Lead Newton Middle School

Harutunian was also considered as a finalist in Framingham.

Newton Superintendent David Fleishman announced today that he has appointed John Harutunian as the new principal at Oak Hill Middle School.  Harutunian, who is currently assistant principal at Robert Adams H. Middle School in Holliston, will replace current Oak Hill principal Eva Thompson.  In a letter sent to Oak Hill parents and staff Friday morning, Fleishman said Harutunian impressed the district with his passion for middle school education as well as his commitment to the academic and emotional well-being of students.  "John is a leader who truly values school and community engagement. You can expect him to be in the classrooms at Oak Hill on a daily basis interacting with both students and faculty," Fleishman said in the letter. "…

Adams School Assistant Named as Framingham Principal Finalist

John Harutunian has been Assistant Principal since 2008.

John Harutunian, current Assistant Principal at the Adams Middle School in Holliston has been selected as one of two finalists for Principal at the Fuller Middle School in Framingham. He spent time in Framingham at the Fuller Middle School previously as a Bilingual/ESL Teacher and Department Head. Along with Harutunian, Sharon Seyller has been selected as the other finalists. Seyller is in her third year as an Assistant Principal at the Fowler Middle School in Maynard.  Site visits for the two finalists have been arranged after April vacation.

Team Hoyt Statue Unveiled at Center School

Rick and Dick Hoyt joined members of John Hancock, the Boston Athletic Association and the Hopkinton Community to unveil the statue.

Anyone familiar with the Boston Marathon has without a doubt heard the story of Dick and Rick Hoyt, the father who has pushed his son in the Boston Marathon 30 times. The John Hancock company has decided to honor Team Hoyt by placing a statue of them outside the Center School, just feet from the starting line.

Are These Girls' Dresses Inappropriate?

Students at one California high school have challenged a policy that barred 40 teens from a school dance for outfits deemed "too tight."

With prom season almost here, a California high school has earned attention for its dress code. Students in Orange County, CA, have called Capistrano Valley High's policies a "repressed code," after 40 girls were subjected to wardrobe inspections before being admitted to a recent dance.  "There were these girls who have beautiful bodies, who are happy with their bodies—to have the principal ask what part of your body isn't the dress tight on, he makes me feel insecure," said senior Lindsay Kamikawa, editor of the school newspaper, who was among the girls prohibited from entering the dance. I agree with Jay - not worth Patch "local news", and clearly a move towards "tabloid" by the authors... actually can't really call them authors since it was "copied" from a high school paper. As for the dress - it's nothing new for those that remember the Beach Boys song, California Girls, that was 48 years ago people!! High School Principal Candidate Withdraws

One of the two finalists has pulled out of the selection for HHS Principal.

According to a release from the Hopkinton School Department, John Smith has withdrawn his name from consideration to be Hopkinton High's next principal. The Superintendent's office said the current Westborough High School Principal has accepted another job offer. The departure leaves Holliston High School Principal Michael Cournoyer as the only remaining finalist. Community members will be able to meet Cournoyer on April 3 in the High School auditorium at 7 p.m. Those who attend the public forum with Cournoyer will be able to provide feedback to Interim-Superintendent Steven Hiersche before a final decision is made.

Center School Principal Finalists Named

One of the candidates currently works in the Hopkinton Public School system.

With just a few months to go until the end of the school year, administrators in Hopkinton have narrowed down the down the field of candidates for Center School Principal to three. All three candidates are currently principals or assistant principals in the area. One of the candidates, Tim Kearnan, is the assistant principal for the Elmwood and Hopkins schools at the moment. The central offices for Hopkinton Public Schools released the following bios for the three candidates: Ms. Abigail Dressler holds a Master of Education degree from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, also from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. She is currently the Acting Principal/Assistant Principal for…
