Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.
1. Readers’ Choice Voting Starts Monday: You nominated your favorites over the past month, and starting Monday it will be time to vote. We had nominations in 18 of the 25 categories. The polls open at 6 a.m. on Monday so be sure to vote in as many as you feel comfortable with. 2. Pet of the Week: Monte is a very handsome boy who needs to go to special home where his people are home most of the time. Monte does well with cats and would love to live in a multi-greyhound household. For this retired hound, finding a retiree would be the perfect match for him. Monte gets overwhelmed in new situations so a consistent quiet life at home would be perfect for him. Monte would do best with experienced greyhound owners and other confident greyhounds …

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.
1. Capture the Flag: Remember that awesome game from your childhood? It was part strategy, part athleticism and mostly fun. This afternoon from 3 to 5 the Hopkinton Youth Commission is bringing the game to the town common for kids entering 6th through 8th grades to enjoy. 2. No Dogs Today: Due to a death in her family, Lisa from Snappy Dogs will be out of town today and the trailer will be closed. Be sure to stop in tomorrow for a tasty lunch. 3. Barbara Kessler: Earlier this year we featured a story about Hopkinton musician Barbara Kessler’s newest CD 'What You Keep. She’s been performing more recently to promote her music and we just found out that this Saturday she’ll be playing a show at the Nourish Lounge in Lexington. More …

A look back at some of the stories that topped patch over the past week.
At Patch, Sunday morning means that it’s time to take look back at this week in Hopkinton news. With it getting to be the end of January, the town’s departments are really starting to get in to the nitty-gritty of their budgets. The Board of Selectmen heard presentations from the Capital Improvements Committee and the Community Preservation Committee about. The two groups presented the lists of projects that they had in the works for fiscal year ’13 and the years after. The School Committee also spent a large amount of time talking about budgets. At their meeting Thursday they had presentations about the high school, middle school and athletic department budgets. They also heard from many parents who were against a proposed cut at the …

This week's Patch stories covered a variety of topics, but we had two stories that stood separate from the rest.
In Case you missed it, we had a lot of new stories on the site this week. We learned about some programs that the town has been working on and we talked to some great people around the town. At the Board of Selectmen meeting on Thursday they talked about merging the Hopkinton Fire Department together with the Ashland Fire Department. The conversation has been going on for a couple years and looks like the final phases of background research could be ready by the end of the year. We also had a fantastic piece about Dan Field who takes part in the Pan Mass Challenge every year to help raise money for the Jimmy Fund. Next week we have a lot of great content coming to you, including a profile on the woman who we picked as our social media page…
