Hopkinton Selectmen Brian Herr discusses his experiences at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross today in Boston.
Hopkinton Selectmen Brian Herr says the Superintendent Search Committee worked hard to achieve their goal and hire Cathy MacLeod.
Dear Editor, Last week the Hopkinton School Committee selected Cathy MacLeod to serve the citizens of Hopkinton as the next Superintendent of Schools. Their decision followed a very thorough process I was pleased to participate in, along with several other Hopkinton residents, as a member of the Superintendent Search Committee. The Superintendent Search Committee reviewed dozens of resumes, pared the list of candidates down to those that met specific qualifications articulated by the community, interviewed each of the semi-finalists over several nights, scored those interviews numerically, and finally, voted a slate of candidates to move forward to the School Committee. Thereafter, the School Committee conducted further interviews, …

Dana Farber Marathon Challenge Team founding member, Brian Herr, hopes to run 62 or more marathons in his lifetime.
Years ago, Brian Herr sat down at his desk and felt something around his middle that gave him pause and sparked him to action. “I looked down at myself and realized that I didn’t have the figure I once did,” Herr said. Never one to accept the status quo, Herr decided to take up running. Today, his running is saving lives. “I literally went home that day and started running errands,” Herr said. “At first I’d run a half mile to the store to grab a gallon of orange juice and run back, then I worked my way up a little more each day. This year, Herr will be participating in his 25th Boston Marathon with no end date in site. “I am one of the fortunate ones who has been able to run on the Dana Farber Marathon Challenge (DFMC) Team all 23 years,” …
Brian Herr, Pete McGregor and Dale Danahy receive Good Scout awards.
More than 100 family members, friends and Hopkinton community members gathered Wednesday night at the Hopkinton Country Club to honor this year's recipients of the Good Scout awards. Brian Herr, Dale Danahy of Colella's Market and Pete McGregor's family were on hand to accept the awards. McGregor has been in the hospital since May 10. His family said his condition is improving and he is expected to move to a regular room soon. The Good Scout award is bestowed on individuals who have demonstrated integrity, humility and genuine concern for others in their professional and personal lives. The recipients do not need to have been Scouts, but must have the unselfish, community-oriented "Spirit of Scouting." Karen Bograd from Troop 1 …

Retiring Planning Board Chairman says he's still a Democrat but thinks Brian Herr is the best choice.
I'm endorsing Brian Herr for Selectman. In my experience working with Brian, he manages meetings well, listens more than he speaks, asks the right questions, and works to ensure a fair and open process. Brian understands that Town Meeting is the ultimate authority on critical decisions in Hopkinton, and that the role of town boards is not only to implement Town Meeting decisions, but also to ensure community input is reflected in proposals that boards bring to Town Meeting. Although I am a Democrat who will continue to support Jim McGovern for Congress, I believe the candidate in this year's race for Hopkinton Selectman whose pragmatism, political instinct and local experience will most benefit Hopkinton is Brian Herr. - Joe Markey
Former selectmen chairman and 3rd Distric Congressional candidate Brian Herr steps in at last minute as Dick MacDonald withdraws. Democrats have an easier night.
EDITOR'S NOTE: The following changes were made to this report on April 10 at 7 p.m. following a note from HRTC Chairman Ken Weismantel. Library trusdtee candidate Mike McNamara is unenrolled. Beth Malloy has withdrawn fromn the school committee race. Thanks Ken! Republican Dick MacDonald was listening to what he said was a generic conference call on new regulations for those in the financial services industry when he thought, "Uh oh." MacDonald was a candidate for Hopkinton selectman until then. As he listened to the new rules, he realized they might not prohibit him from holding office, but they would be prohibitive regarding actions he might take as a member of the town's executive authority. As an example, he said selectmen's authority…
