College Student Rescues Injured Cat

After the rescuer went going door to door, the cat was placed with Animal Control.

Sunday night, Alex Porter was on Washington Street when he saw a car hit a cat and leave.  Concerned for its safety, the UMass Amherst student wrapped it in his flannel shirt and spent the next two hours knocking on Mudville doors, unsuccessfully trying to find the cat’s home.  With the help of the fire department and Andrea Minihan of the Selectmen’s office, contact was eventually made with the on duty Animal Control officer, and the cat was placed in her care. An update on the cat’s condition is not presently known.  Anyone recognizing the cat in the adjacent photo is asked to contact Animal Control at 429-4631.
