Scouts Celebrate Under the Stars

Troop 73 conducted the third annual CAMPING ON THE GREEN.

The calendar said November, but the green tents that sprouted on the town common last weekend were more reminiscent of flowers on a warm spring day.  And though the tents filled with young men for a planned overnight vigil, this was no “occupy” movement imposing itself on a quiet community.  These were the scouts of Holliston’s Troop 73, and they were here to celebrate their third annual CAMPING ON THE GREEN. Scoutmaster Mike Tyman led the scouts in a number of activities, indicating that “We started this three years ago as a celebration of the 100th anniversary of scouting.  Each year it has become more popular with over fifty cub scouts and their families joining us for a full day of activities.  This year’s pirate theme was used to …

5 Things You Need to Know Today: June 11

Friends of the Library book sale is the place to start your day.

1.The Friends of the Hopkinton Library Book Sale is today from 10 to 4 BUT if you become a Friend of the Library for a very manageable fee of $10, or $5 for seniors and students, or $20 max for your whole family - and you can do it right while you're there - you get into the sale at 9, just like going to the front of the line at a swanky nightclub. The Book Sale is also Sunday from 11 to 2. 2. Hopkinton Cub Scout Pack 26 also has a geo-caching event and family picnic starting at 10 and going until 1 at Hopkinton State Park. I have a friend who geocaches and he has a blast! The particulars differ but all geocaching involves a kind of high-tech hide-and-seek with objects instead of people. Boys are invited to bring their parents to meet Pack…
