With the old DPW headquarters on Fruit Street nearing the end of it's useful life. DPW Director John Westerling asks for community support at the town election on Monday.
A letter of request from the Hopkinton Department of Public Works The Hopkinton Department of Public Works asks for your continued support of its efforts to replace the DPW facility on Wood Street. The Annual Town Meeting of 2011 appropriated $250,000 for the design of a new DPW facility on Wood Street. That vote requires approval at the ballot on Monday, May 21st. The DPW asks for your continued support of this important initiative. Thursday, Jan 19 3:49 a.m.: A person went in to the station to report that a driver had passed him in a no passing zone on Main Street near Pleasant Street. The walk-in gave a license plate number but it did not match the vehicle he described. 3:41 p.m.: An officer assisted a driver with a disabled motor vehicle. He gave them a courtesy ride to Upton. The car was picked up by a tow truck. 4:36 p.m.: A 911 caller reported a single car crash on Ash Street. No injuries were reported. 5:21 p.m.: A person walked in to the station to report that a business on Main Street had it’s doors open but there was no one inside. Tuesday, Jan. 17 8:26 a.m.: A School bus with three students onboard was involved in a crash on Hidden Brick Road. There were no apparent injuries. 1:55 p.m.: An officer assisted with traffic while the Department of Public Works did a repair on Summer Street. 1:48 p.m.: An officer advised the state police of a ladder in the roadway on route 495. 3:58 p.m.: An officer assisted two drivers after a crash on West Main Street. 8:46 p.m.: A 911 caller reported a car vs. telephone pole crash on Cross Street. The crash was in Ashland so, Ashland PD responded. 9:03 p.m.: An officer checked a vehicle parked on East Main Street. 10:09 p.m.: An officer checked a vehicle that was parked at the Gulf Mart all day. The owner never notified the business.

Thursday, Dec. 15 12:43 a.m.: A caller reported a vehicle stopped on East Main Street. The caller said it appeared as if the driver was passed out. The vehicle was located in Ashland. Ashland Police took placed the operator in custody. 6:50 a.m.: A caller reported that an alarm went off in his Spring Street house. The caller requested extra checks of his home and was advised to call the police if the alarm went off again. 8:01 a.m.: The Hopkinton Police Department received a call about a downed wire on Elm Street. They checked the area and confirmed it to be a cable wire. Verizon was notified. 9:11 a.m.: An officer spoke with a person who had been involved in a crash on West Main Street. Hopkinton Recycling Center will allow more availability for debris from October snowstorm.
Due to the extra amount of trees and leaves that have fallen this week in the storm, The Hopkinton Recycling center will be extending their hours. The recycling center, located on Wood St. at the Hopkinton / Westborough town line will be open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. today through Saturday. Sunday hours will be noon to 4 p.m. A release from John Westerling, director of the Hopkinton Department of Public Works, outlined the following restrictions. This is for Hopkinton residents only who are disposing residential leaf and brush. No commercial vehicles will be allowed to dump. All bags must be emptied; no bag disposal will be permitted. The maximum brush size: 6-inch diameter, 6-foot length and no large stumps will be permitted.
