Gerry Leone Announces He Won't Seek Third Term as D.A.

The Hopkinton resident said he has no specific plans after he leaves office.

Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone has announced he will not seek a third term in 2014, according to his office. Leone made the announcement during an awards ceremony with his staff on Jan. 10.  "These decisions are, and should be, predicated upon what is best for the person and their family," Leone said in a statement. "What is best for me and my family is that I not seek another term. As someone who is much smarter than I am once said, 'I must be willing to give up what I am, in order to become what I will be.' Other than a husband and father, I am not yet sure what that will be when I am no longer a District Attorney." Leone said he does not plan to seek another elected office but has no other specific plans at the moment, …

Former EMC Worker Indicted on Five Counts of Larceny

Madeline Vinton allegedly stole $220,000 in company money for personal expenses including plastic surgery.

From the Middlesex District Attorney's Office A Webster woman was indicted today for allegedly using company money for hundreds of thousands of dollars of unauthorized personal expenses including elaborate trips, limo rides and plastic surgery, Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone informed the public today. Madeline Vinton, 35, of Webster was indicted on five counts of larceny over $250. An arraignment date in Middlesex Superior Court has not yet been set. “This defendant knowingly and fraudulently stole from her employer, spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on unauthorized personal expenses,” District Attorney Leone said. “She took advantage of her position of trust within the company.  We and EMC take such clandestine larcenous …

DA Gerry Leone and Police Chief Flannery Unveil Drug Collection Unit

As part of the Middlesex District Attorney's Office's push to get more prescription drugs off the streets, Hopkinton is one of 29 towns that will be home to a collection receptacle.

It might look like a recycling bin you would see in a restaurant or theme park, but the green box inside the Hopkinton Police Department entrance serves a much more important purpose. According to statistics cited by District Attorney Gerry Leone at the unveiling of the drug collection unit, prescription drug use is the number one fastest growing drug problem in the country. "Home medicine cabinets are quick easy and free access to mind and mood altering drugs," Leone said. Hopkinton Police Chief Richard Flannery said the new receptacle helps community members that can't make it to the drug take-back days dispose of their old and unused prescriptions in a safe and environmentally friendly way. Domestic Violence in Focus After Murder-Suicide

A husband and wife with no public history of domestic violence were found dead this morning.

When a coworker of Todd Vogel found two bodies near the entrance to their house, police officers from Hopkinton and the Massachusetts State Police responded to the scene. According to Police Chief Richard Flannery, the couple didn't have a history of domestic violence, but the police had responded to several other disturbances at the house, including parties. District Attorney Gerry Leone said the impact of this incident is unfortunate and far-reaching. “This is an extreme case of marital domestic violence that resulted today in a husband murdering his wife and killing himself,” Leone said. “Domestic violence is a complicated and complex dynamic that has a far reaching affect within our communities and amongst the friends and families …
