Humane Society Temporarily Closed
The Baypath Humane Society imposed a voluntary quarintene on Feb. 14 after the discovery of the canine distemper virus
Baypath Humane Society has temporarily closed its doors to the public. According to a press release on the shelter's website, several dogs have been found to have the canine distemper virus. Dr. Ronna Kabler of the Main Street Animal Services of Hopkinton, distemper is similar to what humans experience as the measles virus. "The virus attacks the gastrointestinal track causing vomiting and diarrhea fever, pneumonia," Kabler said. "The final stage, which not every dog develops, is neurological symptoms most commonly muscle twitching, in some cases seizures."
