Hopkinton Police Log: Destroyed Stop Sign, Animal Trappers

The following information was provided by the Police Department. Charges do not indicate a conviction. All arrests are reported.

Tuesday, Nov. 6 8:42 a.m.: A caller from West Main Street reported that someone drove over his lawn and ran over a stop sign. The DPW was notified. 9:07 a.m.: A caller reported an erratic truck on Hayden Rowe Street. The caller said ladders had fallen off the truck. 11:45 a.m.: A caller reported suspicious people on their neighbor’s property on Wood Street. An officer responded and spoke to the people who were looking to get permission to trap. 5:06 p.m.: Multiple callers reported a truck fire on Union Street in Ashland. An officer from the Hopkinton Police Department responded to assist with traffic. 8:20 p.m.: A caller from Hayward Street reported an on-going issue with low flying helicopters. 9:53 p.m.: A 911 caller reported a deer that…

Extra Enforcement of Drunk Driving Laws Begins Tonight

As a push toward stronger enforcement of drunk driving laws, the Holliston and Hopkinton Police Departments are stepping up patrols.

First there was "You drink, you drive, you lose" then there was  "Over the limit under arrest" now officers across the state have a new slogan: "Drive sober or get pulled over." The national mobilization around this program is beginning this month as a push for more than 100 Massachusetts communities to crack down on impaired driving. According to a release, there is an impaired-driving related death every 51 minutes in America. "Impaired driving is one of America’s most often committed and deadliest crimes. In 2010, 115 people died in impaired driving related crashes in the Commonwealth.  Moreover, there were an additional 2,750 impaired driving related personal injury and property damage crashes and almost 14,635 impaired driving arrests…

Updated: Man Who Fled Traffic Stop Arrested Today

Hopkinton and Massachusetts State Police spent several hours on Sunday looking for a suspect who fled the scene of a motor vehicle stop.

Update: According to an email from the Hopkinton Police Department, Gonzalez was arrested on Monday, March 12, one day after he escaped in to the woods near West Main Street. ------- Early this afternoon Massachusetts State Trooper Peter Frothingham attempted to stop a motor vehicle near exit 21 on route 495 in Hopkinton. According to the state police, the motor vehicle was beileved to have been operated by Kevin Gonzalez who fled the scene in to the woods where state and Hopkinton police officers spent several hours looking for him. At this time Gonzalez is still at large but he is not considered to be any type of a danger to the public. There will be warrants issued for Gonzalez whose description and address were not available.

Police Log: An Incident at the School, Officer Put a Deer Down

The following information was supplied by the Hopkinton Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Wednesday, Feb. 1 4:24 a.m.: An officer hit a deer in his cruiser on Hayden Rowe Street. The deer had to be put down with one round from the officer’s service weapon. Animal Control was notified to remove the deer. 8:26 a.m.: A caller reported that he was involved in a minor car crash on South Street. No injuries were reported but two vehicles did need to be towed. 11:53 a.m.: A person walked in to the police station to report a hit and run on Main Street. 3:25 p.m.: A person walked in to the station to speak to an officer about a threatening situation that occurred at a school on Hayden Rowe Street. 7:00 p.m.: A caller reported an erratic driver on Hayden Rowe Street. Officers stopped the vehicle and asked the operator to be more cautious.

Participate in National Take Back Day

On October 29 the Hopkinton Police will be holding a take-back day for unwanted prescription drugs in your home.

On October 29 the Hopkinton Police, along with the Drug Enforcement Administration, will be holding a prescription drug take back. The purpose of these take backs is to clear homes of any unwanted drugs. “There are no questions asked,”  Police Chief Richard Flannery said. “Anyone can just drop off any unwanted prescriptions drugs as long as they are not liquid.” Chief Flannery listed several reasons why these take backs are important. “They keep these drugs from being abused by teens or other people," Flannery said. According to the 2009 Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services National Survey approximately 2500 teens use prescription drugs each day to get high. Oct. 21 9:06 a.m. Main St., Report of theft. Officer responded and took complaint. 1:44 p.m. Oakhurst Rd., Walk-in reporting online fraud 6:12 p.m. Winter St., Took a report of threats 6:50 p.m. AAA calling to report a disabled motor vehicle in a dangerous spot. Officer responded and stood by until the tow responded. 6:57 p.m. Hayward St., Caller reports two youth acting suspiciously. Possibly casing cars. They ran into the woods when seen. Officer checked and found nothing and no one. 9:33 p.m. Ash St., Motor vehicle check. All set.

Oct. 20 12:55 a.m. Hayward St., Report of an occupied vehicle with lights on in the parking lot for two hours. Person taken into protective custody. 6:19 a.m. Ash St., Caller reports two cars pulling in and out of the driveway around the house. Officer checked and all is well. 11:21 a.m. East St., Ashland Police requesting assistance with a vehicle they stopped that matched a suspicious vehicle description. 11:37 a.m. E. Main St., Two car accident with no injuries. 11:44 a.m. Wood St., Several calls regarding a car into a telephone pole. Officer and fire responding. Larceny of Tires and a Speeding Dump Truck

Oct. 19 2:26 a.m. Rafferty Rd., Motor vehicle check. All set, owner sleeping inside. 4:29 a.m. Eastview Rd., Fire alarm going off. It was a CO detector. Fire Department says it's all set. 7:26 a.m. W. Main St., Caller reported another vehicle riding her bumper and beeping at her onto Grove Street. Officer picked the vehicle up on Main St and stopped it. Driver says he was cut off by caller. 10:07 a.m. W.
