Thursday, June 13 2:38 a.m.: A caller from East Main Street reported that his dog started barking and when he opened the back door a person ran off. The caller reported the man was stumbling down the road toward Ashland. Police from Hopkinton and Ashland responded. Ashland police officers transported the man home. 8:56 a.m.: A caller from Cross Street reported that money was stolen from his wallet in his car overnight. 3:25 p.m.: A caller reported an on-going issue with a driver speeding down Deneen Road. 3:58 p.m.: Officers took a report of larceny from a home on Stoney Brook. 4:31 p.m.: Officers blocked of part of Pond Street while NStar repaired an electric wire that had fallen. 10:45 p.m.: A caller from Walcott Valley reported loud …

Beware of False Arrest Phone Calls Asking for Money

The Hopkinton Police Department has warned residents of an extortion scam that has occurred in town.

Earlier today the Hopkinton Police Department issued a press release regarding an extortion scam targeting residents. "In these cases generally an unknown person(s) will call or text the victim and make claims that a family member is under arrest or being held captive and needs money to be sent for their release," the release said. According to the department the scammers will generally have basic knowledge of the family member, but they recommend asking for specifics and taking down the phone number if you receive a call. Here are some suggestions:

Police Check EMC Park for High School Fight, Lawnmower Stolen

Tuesday, June 11 7:46 a.m.: Officers responded to a three-car crash on West Main Street. No injuries were reported but one vehicle was towed. 2:10 p.m.: A caller reported a drunk older man stumbling near Hopkinton High School. Officers responded but were unable to find the suspect. Wednesday, June 12 3:22 a.m.: An officer spoke with a person walking down Chestnut Street. The person said he was walking to work from a friend’s house. 11:34 a.m.: An officer took a report of a larceny from Blackthorne Road. 1:44 p.m.: A caller from Hayden Rowe Street requested an officer check on an employee who did not show up for work. Hopkinton Police Run in Hoyt 5K Race, Help Injured Runner

The two members of the Hopkinton Police Department are trained EMTs.

When two members of the Hopkinton Police Department showed up for the 2013 Hoyt 5K Road Race on May 23 they knew they'd be supporting a good cause, but they probably didn't expect they would be helping out an injured runner. Officer Aaron O’Neil and Dispatcher Evan Brooks both started the race at Weston Nurseries, but during their run they came across an injured runner on the course. "O’Neil and Brooks are trained EMT’s and rendered assistance to the injured runner until the arrival of paramedics. Once patient care was turned over to paramedics, both O’Neil and Brooks continued running in the event," a release from the Hopkinton Police Department said.  Brooks was awarded first place trophy in the male law enforcement category. Rude Solicitor Annoys Residents of Daniel Shays Road

Friday, June 7 2:57 p.m.: Officers assisted a resident of Front Street who reported a break-in. 3:30 p.m.: A caller from Daniel Shays Road reported that a young male knocked on his door and said he was selling magazines. The male then asked for $800. When the caller shut the door the male kept talking. Officers responded but were unable to locate the suspect. 4:23 p.m.: A caller from Daniel Shays Road reported a rude magazine solicitor. 5:09 p.m.: A caller from Wood Street reported that a very polite male stopped at her house and asked for money for inner city children. 6:41 p.m.: A caller from Palomino Drive reported a male walking around the neighborhood acting suspiciously.
