The 2013 National Service Day is Saturday, Jan. 19
Volunteerism runs deep across America, and it's no different in MetroWest. Saturday, Jan. 19, is a National Day of Service, encouraging folks to get out in the community and pitch in to make a difference. President Barack Obama started the National Day of Service four years ago, inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., on Jan. 19, 2008, and also authorized a day of service on Sept. 11, 2009, as well. You can find volunteer opportunities and register volunteer events on AllForGood.org, Serve.gov, and the Presidential Inauguration Committee website. With just a week left before Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Hopkinton Youth Commission put the last minute touches on their plans for a day of service.
To many students Martin Luther King Jr. Day might be just another day off from school, but to some Hopkinton children the day represents so much more. The day of service is being organized by Margie Wiggin, a Hopkinton resident and member of the Youth Commission. Wiggin has helped transition the day from service projects preformed in the school, to service preformed by groups scattering out around town to help the community. Groups will go to …
